$1.975 Million Jury Verdict For 71-year-old Crash Victim
A 71-year-old Burlington woman was severely injured when her minivan was struck by a Federal Express truck which crossed the center line. On May 21, 2008, our client was driving a 1996 minivan with her 88-year-old mother-in-law as a passenger.
The Federal Express truck turned directly into the minivan’s path leading to a head-on collision in which our client’s mother-in-law was killed. Our client who was 69 years of age at the time of the collision suffered a broken left femur and knee and a crushed right ankle and foot. The case was tried, and after two hours of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict of $1.975 million. This verdict was far in excess of the amount offered by Federal Express, whose attorneys argued that no Alamance County jury would return a million dollar verdict.
